On Kings and Dictators
By George William Sweeney
I was thinking the other day about the various forms of government, how they are classified as left or right. I have wondered why communism and fascism are placed on opposite ends of the spectrum.
`I do understand the differences between the classifications but still I look back at the history of the two ideologies and see that both are the children of "socialism." And as the saying goes "the apple does not fall far from the tree." The analogy is that the children are not so much different from their parents. So it is with socialism’s children, except they are more extreme.
From all their differences of ideology the underlying reality of these two systems are the same. We know the one leader concept of fascism, but we also see the reality of the communist under Lenin and Stalin, that it became a one-leader society.
Whether you have fascism or communism the reality is a dictatorship, one person in absolute rule. The ideology does not matter, "by their fruits ye shall know them."
So, ideology aside, I suggest a more realistic classification than left or right. This classification would be based on the distribution of power. On one extreme we have the one-person leader, the other extreme is a democracy.
Looking at the history of Russia, particularly the transition from the Czar to communism, careful review of the history shows little if any differences between czarist and communist Russia. The central theme that is realized is still one person with absolute power over all life and property. Law is by the whim of the ruler.
This is when the truth hit me. These new forms of government are not new but the emperor wearing new clothes. These dictatorships are restorations of kingdoms. The dictator may call himself president secretary general or what not but they established themselves as kings ruling over their domain.
We have visited Plato’s cave and seen the shadows we call fascism and communism. Looking behind us we can see the true form is just another shadow of a king.
Hasn’t mankind grown beyond this immature form of government?
